Last night’s girls’ varsity basketball game between North Point and Leonardtown turned out be a great back and forth battle until the clock hit zero for the final time. The final score was 48-43 in favor of Leonardtown as they were able to get the win in front of their home crowd and improve their record to 8-2, North Point fell to 7-3. The momentum of the game swung back and forth between the teams all night long. In the first quarter neither team was able to take control of the game however North Point gained control of the game in the second quarter as Leonardtown found themselves in foul trouble for almost the entire quarter. Leonardtown was able to weather the storm and battle back to take the lead in the late stages of the fourth quarter There were a few factors that allowed Leonardtown to take control of the game in the closing minutes and walk away with the win. First off Leonardtown was able to get North Point into foul trouble in second half, North Point’s foul trouble forced them to change their offensive plans and they had to turn to Synia Johnson how lead all scores with 18 points 13 of those points came in the second half. Although Johnson put the team on her back in the second half North Point still fell short, as Leonardtown looked for the best scoring chance ever time down the floor. Leonardtown had two players who finished in double figures Emma Vezzosi finished the night with 16 points 9 of those points came in second half. The other double figures scorer was Senior Kayla Goldring who finished the night with 15 points Leonardtown’s ability to look for the best scoring chances ever time they were on offense helped them to the win however it was not the only reason they won. Once North Point entered foul trouble Leonardtown’s defense brought the pressure and forced several turnovers when all was said and done Leonardtown won the turnover battle and the turnovers North Point committed late allowed Leonardtown to take control of the game in the closing minutes and earn a hard-fought victory.
